Last night I saw what I would nominate at the best spinoff video game of this year. Unlike the "Ms. Pacman" spinoff of "Pacman" (which was just a changed layout and slightly different monsters), this new game "Donkey Kong Junior" has completely reversed the plot-line. This time, the victim is the Gorilla (in a cage) and the heavy is the man in the overralls. The player runs the Gorilla's kid (in diapers) who is after a key to release his papa.... The graphics are just as good (if not better) then the original Donkey Kong, and the motif is extremely clever. Here in Portland, it was at the Beaverton Pizza-Time theatre, and was brought in yesterday afternoon. (I am not sure if that particular restaurant chain has spread to the East coast of the states, or up to Canada - it is kind of like a poor man's Disneyland that sells extremely bad food at inflated prices, and has more video-games than you have ever seen in your life.)

For those interested in "Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre", you might want to know that is was started and I think is still owned by Nolan Bushnell (Spelling?) who was the man who started Atari and sold out to Warner Communications. Now you understand why the video games. Also the terrible pizza (ever know a hack who could cook? [no flames please]) and the high prices (ever see a good computer company without high markup?).
