I have received several inquiries regarding my posting regarding ad_d. This is a game based on rogue which has many new features (like ~100 monsters, new potions, sticks, rings, etc.) It was developed by Doug Whitten (ihuxn!dewo1) who kindly consented to distribute it to those who wanted it (in source form). This offer was made 2 or 3 weeks ago and a number of people replied. As far as I know, they are in the process of receiving the code. If there are a large number of additional people who want the game, a system of distribution will have to be worked out (like one copy to a system or something) to avoid overloading uucp lines. It might also be desireable to have recipients forward the game to others rather than expecting ihuxn to transmit a lot of copies. Maybe it should even be sent via net.source (Doug willing of course!). ************************************************************************* Side comment to Doug Whitten: Please post to net.games regarding policy on additional distributions. There seem to be people who didn't see the original offer. ************************************************************************* Regarding the proposed news group... There is going to be the same type of news traffic as currently exists for rogue (questions, complaints, new features, etc.). Since the game is relatively distinct from rogue it makes sense to allocate a group to it if there is a large audience. Currently, work is going on to convert it to 4.1 bsd (it's set up for vanilla 4.0). To ensure that everybody has access to these and other changes, a newsgroup is ideal. With mail there is the risk of leaving new users out of the discussion. So, vote for net.games.ad_d and let's get the ball rolling! Steve Falco (floyd!saf)

Let me suggest that Ken Arnold's policy be followed -- that at most one copy be sent to a site, to aid in controlling gameplaying where necessary.
