You are supposed to pry it open. Now, what object is most like a pry bar? You also don't know where else to go... If you've really gone everywhere and snarfed all the treasures, why then, you're finished. If you've gone everywhere, seen every treasure, and had the pirate take at least one of them, then the pirate's chest should have appeared.
