There's a rather nifty-looking program on our system called "sail" which
describes itself as a game of "wooden ships and iron men". It appears
to be a real-time, multi-user simulation game involving 30 different
scenarios of sea battles, ranging from "Constitution vs. Cyane & Levant"
and "Botany Bay" to "Battle of Midway" and even "Voyage to the Bottom of
the Sea".
Unfortunately, there is no documentation available, apparently not even
a "help" or "?" command within the program. If anyone out there has any
info which would help us play the game, it would be much appreciated.
So far I haven't even been able to figure out how to change course or
fire a round with the cannons!

Thanks to all who sent me suggestions on how to use "sail". It turns
out that we did indeed have the man pages. They had just been over-
looked when 4.2 was installed a week or so ago.

"Wooden Ships and Iron Men" is a board wargame produced by Avalon Hill. If you can locate a copy, it will describe the game mechanics in much more detail than the manual page for sail. Charles LaBrec UUCP: pur-ee!Physics:crl, purdue!Physics:crl INTERNET: crl @ pur-phy.UUCP
