Does anyone know why Linear Programming is called Linear *Programming*, rather than something more descriptive like Linear *Optimization*? No guesses, please, I'm looking for an answer backed up with references. Please reply by mail, I'll stick the answer on the net. Thanks. John Eldridge floyd!jce
