[net.music] Info on Strat copies please

srneely@watcgl.UUCP (Shawn Neely) (06/26/85)

I want to buy a Strat copy. My objective is to get THE Strat sound.
A guitar which gives simply a single coil pickup sound isn't good enough.
I also want the Strat style contour body and maple fingerboard.
It has to be "Hey, that's a Strat isn't it?" sound or else forget it.
Why don't I buy a genuine Strat, you ask? The new ones are too much money
too poor quality. The old ones are too few and far between.

I've been considering the Fender Squier Strat, mainly because they're
cheap, Japanese (quality better than USA), and I figure Fender should know
how to make it sound like Fender. Dealers have been recommending that I
try Ibanez, Phoenix, and a few others.

What I'm after, then, are the opinions of anyone with any experience with
these guitars who can offer useful info to help me decide.
I do not subscribe to net.music (I couldn't find net.music.guitar, so that's
why I'm here;
please redirect me elsewhere if appropriate) so please reply to me
instead of posting on net. Thanks for your assistance.

I have a real Strat, and just the other day, a friend of mine brought over
his brand new Strat copy, a Schaffer (I think, it started with an S anyway)
which I was quite impressed with. It had a maple neck, EXACT same bridge
assembly with vibrato arm, etc., and I thought the action was quite good
expecially since it cost him about $170. It looks virtually identical,
and the sound was darn close as well.
