Log Transcription of Captain Ronald James of the Command
Cruiser (refitted) North America
In the first action of the war the Federation CC+ "North
America" commanded by Captain Ronald James responded to a call
from a planetary base. The call contained an alert notice of two
frigate sized ships of Andromedan design lurking at medium range
from the planet. Fighters had been dispatched to investigate but
the Andromedans easily outran them. The North America intercept-
ed the ships after they had left the system. The interception
area was near to a variable pulsar. This made any combat situa-
tion doubly dangerous due to the outbursts of energy from the
pulsar.
Captain James: "Raise full shields, arm phasers and photon
torpedoes. Engineering, prepare 2 suicide attack shuttles and 1
scatter pack. Gunnery, launch a type I-X drone."
Science officer: "They are energizing power absorbers to
reinforce levels. All weapons are armed. Pulsar warning! Seven
seconds. Number six shield 55% damaged. Incoming fire: 20% dam-
age to number one shield. Both ships closing to medium range."
Captain James: "Damage control: Begin repairs to number six
shield. Launch another drone.
Science officer: "Both ships still closing and accelerating.
Firing phasers. Number six shield is down. Minor internal dam-
age."
Captain James: "Fire phasers and photon torpedoes."
Weapons officer: "A few hits, the range is too long."
Science officer: "Pulsar Burst: 40% damage to rear shields.
Both ships have reached maximum speed." Captain James: "Full for-
ward acceleration. Come about to bring shield two to bear.
Launch another drone."
Score at the half: Andromedans slightly ahead due to slight
internal damage to the North America from the pulsar.
Captain James: "Close to point bank range. Fully overload
photon torpedoes.
At this point the North America strikes two small mines.
Captain James: "What the #### was that?
Science officer: "Two transporter bombs dead ahead, sir.
Forward shield is down. There is minor internal damage."
Captain James: I'll teach them to damage my ship! Fire all
phasers and torpdeoes."
Weapons officer: "Three torpedoes and all phasers operation-
al sir. Firing. All torpedoes and phasers scored, sir! She's
dead in space, sir!"
Science officer: "Incoming fire, sir."
"BOOOOOM"
The Andromedan courier took over 50 internal hits. Within
about 1 or 2 of blowing. Then two PA panels blew. The ship was
finished. It blew up and caused about 28 hits to the forward
Pa's of its' sister ship. The North America took about 14 more
internals in addition to the 50+ it had already suffered. The
second Andromedan came straight on and hit the three transporter
bombs placed by the chief engineer who acted without orders to do
so. He received a commendation from the Federation Grand Admiral
for his actions. The second Andromedan ship took no internals
from the bombs. The North America pealed off to the right and
dropped another transporter bomb from the shuttle bay. The An-
dromedan turned to the left to follow the North America and
missed the bomb. The North America promptly fired two phaser
III's into the forward PA's causing minor internal damage to the
courier.
The North America was now crippled.
Captain James: "Launch a drone in his face for ########
sake. Launch a suicide attack shuttle too! Drop another tran-
sporter bomb from the shuttle bay.
The Andromedan destroyed the SAS with P-II fire but had to
eat the drone. Moderate internal damage was caused. At least
until a PA blew. The Andromedan hit the TB dead on for another
10 internals. He still came on bent on finishing the North Amer-
ica.
Next round: The North America manged to maintain speed and
dropped another TB. Her remaining phasers (3 P-I, 2 P-III) were
able to fire to the rear and did causing no internal damage to
the Courier. The courier missed the TB and overran the cruiser.
Fired its' remaining P-II and tore off at about 22 hexes per
turn. It proceeded to outrun the cruiser and disengage. final
