In the book "Excursions into Mathematics" by Beck, Bleicher, and Crowe, published by Worth Publishers, Inc. in 1969, there is some information about Piet Hein. On page 328, it says, among other things, that he was born in 1905, he is Danish (not Dutch), is an engineer, poet, and intellectual jack-of-all-trades. He suggested the "super-ellipse" to solve a Stockholm problem of putting a traffic circle into a rectangular space, and in 1942, invented the game of Hex. Lee Dickey ljdickey@watmath
