[net.games] MORE FOR PBM AD&D GAME: RULES FOR THOSE WHO DON'T HAVE THEM

wade@nmtvax.UUCP (05/12/84)

------------------------------------------------------------------
I AM POSTING THIS BECAUSE THE MAIL SYSTEM REFUSES TO
SEND IT TO SEVERAL PEOPLE. THIS IS THE FULL BATCH OF
SEMI-IMPORTANT THINGS I HAVE SENT OUT, SO EVERYONE SHOULD
HAVE IT NOW.
------------------------------------------------------------------
We need your characters as soon as possible, the die rolling
conventions and all that garbage are in the first batch of rules
we sent out. Just set up a regular 1st level character. You
will have to confer with each other to decide what classes you
will run and all that, but whatever you do, try not to take to
much time. Once characters are in, we can get this show on the
road. By the way, do name your characters.
I need everyones mailing address, phone number, and for some
of you, your names.
Cancel whatever I may have said about posting communications
to others in your own party. We now have 4 groups on the net,
and you won't want them to know what your doing.
There are currently 16 players, and 14 more people on the
waiting list. The waiting list is growing at a rate of about
5 people per day.

Just to let you know when the deadline is, if we don't
have your character by may 30, we will assign you one. If
that is not acceptable, someone off the waiting list will
replace you.

Here are some ground rules (similar to ground beef) for our little AD&D game.

Coordination:
All you guys can talk to each other as much as you want, and
thus will act as a group. You will decide on a course of action
for the whole group, but if there are individual actions, just send
them in with the group report.
For your party, you can be just about any character class you want,
as long as it's legal. If you have some deviate class of special design,
send me a FULL writeup and I'll let you play it if it's reasonable.
You will all start at 1st level, as will all other groups, and I suggest
you all confer to decide what mix of classes you will have for your
group. As for alignments, you can be whatever you want, good, bad,
or ugly, but I suggest that everyone in your group be of the same
general alignment. We don't want members of the same group killing
each other, because other groups will be trying to kill you too, so
try to cooperate.
Turns will be processed as fast as you can send them in, but if
there is some unreasonably long unexplained delay, we will consider
you to be whoring in some random urban center for that time period.

The World:
Everyone will start on a small continent/island that makes up what
to you is the known world. There are three major cities and a variety
of small ones. The climate is sub-tropical, and there is alot of
grassland, a small chain of mountains, a small rainforest in the
northeastern area, another forest in the northwestern area, a salt
marsh between the two forests, and a desert type area in the south
eastern area. The continent/island is reasonably civilized and there
are more people than monsters, so you're pretty safe if you stay
away from the wilder swamps and forests (Who wants to be safe?!??),
but of course the humans can be more dangerous than the monsters.
We will not be giving you maps of the world, you can make your
own general maps from our descriptions, and you can ask questions
to clarify your maps. If you want a map that is any good at all,
you will have to explore, because your general knowlege isn't very
accurate.
I will send you your starting location as soon as you get
characters organized and sent in. For starting money, give yourself
75% of the maximum possible for your class. For stats, roll four
six-sided dice and drop the lowest. Magic users can pick any
four first level spells to put in their spell books.

We have the detailed world info for drawing of maps, the
political and religious background info, and all that to
send to you after the characters are in.
