Well, I finally conquered Zork. (ps: The endgame is pretty neat) Anyway -- you're missing a lot of stuff -- contact me for details if you wish. Hello sailor! -- Spoken: John D. Hmm, a few clarifications are in order. Some of the equipment belongs to a version of Zork with more possible points. My comments are in brackets ... TRAPS: sharp stick (pierces boat) [Useful for something else though ...] USELESS: guano (?) [Bat guano is explosive under the right conditions ...] rusty box (?) [There is something in here you need. Open with brick and wire...] TOOLS OF UNKNOWN PURPOSE: fuse (shiny wire; to light explosive--brick) [These two are used on brick (explosive, to open up passage?) the rust box.] timbers [Left over from another version. You tied a rope to it at the top of the ramp and threw the rope down the ramp. You could then climb *halfway* down the ramp and get off in a small area. You could also peer into one of three spheres and see the location of one of the other two.] lunch (with water, puts cyclops to sleep; but that seems unnecessary) [Garlic might affect a vampire ...] MAGIC & TRICKS: praying in altar room returns one to forest pour water when standing in bucket makes it rise in well "geronimo" makes barrel go down falls when uttered inside the barrel "hello sailor" when in ... room ... [Nope. Totally useless statement] exorcism (with bible and lit candles, ring bell, then say 'exorcise') at entrance to Hades give a treasure to thief to gain time to kill him put portrait in depository, then go to viewing room ("asking for it"), then throw it through curtain and get it in viewing room [There is another way to do it ...] push red, brown, and yellow buttons in that order in maintenance room to activate sluice machinery; then turn bolt with wrench at dam to open sluice gates and allow traversing of reservois (and getting of trunk) [Only have to push one button ...] pushing blue button creates leak; plug leak with glue (from tube) ... to solidify rainbow to get pot of gold on other side [Wave the stick... Dunno where the idea comes from.] LEFT: what allows reading cake icing? [Flask] granite is a verb! how to use it? should give access to thief's hideout from temple entrance. [Say "treasure" somewhere in the temple] where is hello sailor useful? [It's not.] how to get in bank vault? and out? [It's a long, complicated process.] how to open egg? [The thief is rather dexterous ...] use for explosives? timber? [see above] where to find slag? [Huh?] If anyone is really into cheating, I have a set of files that can be piped through Zork that win the game. It is tuned for my system, you might have to retune it for yours. By tuning I mean that I had to put some 'waits' in there to make sure that the thief cleared the room before I walked into it. For whatever it is worth, I have won the full (616 points?) Zork and Endgame in is original version at MIT. I *think* I know everything there is to know about playing it... Enjoy yourselves. -- David C.
