[net.games] Free Sample of Diplomacy Digest

carlton@masscomp.UUCP (Carlton Hommel) (01/02/85)

Mark Berch, the publisher of Diplomacy Digest, is interested in reaching
Electronic Mail Diplomacy players. He says,
Diplomacy Digest has a particular advangage to players not
interested in "postal" diplomacy, since it does not "waste"
	any space running postal games.
Folks, I have subscribed to DD since Origins 1977, after reading issue #1
in Berch's first promotional offer. It has given me a sense of Hobby
History without actually getting in any feuds. (Some of which rival the
Rosen/Ardnt flames!) The issue on stalemate lines was responsible for
my being able to snatch a draw from the jaws of defeat. The theme issues on
playing Italy and Austria have made me fear no more these global basket cases.

Subscription prices are an amazingly modest 10 issues for $4.00.

Obligatory Quote:

Diplomacy is....
the art of saying"nice doggie" until you have time to pick up a rock.
realizing that the truth works as well as a lie - but not as often.
explaining to a cow what part of a pig hamburger comes from.
arranging a Balance of Power with your thumb on the scales.

Another one:
There appear to be quite a dichotomy of opinion among Diplomacy players as to
whether second or third place finihsed mean anything. One school holds to the
concept that only winning the game matters, and that all other players have
"lost", regardless of whether they finish with 1 unit or 16....
