Nymphs in rogue (5.2) can't steal wielded weapons or worn armor.
Nymphs in hack CAN steal wielded weapons or worn armor. (As I
just found out).
However, in hack the nymphs hang out at the current level. If you
can kill them, you can get back your stuff (unlike rogue).
Anyway, I was playing a Fighter game with this nifty +5 two-handed
sword. I encountered the zoo, and managed to kill off all the
beasties, except for one nymph, who was just sitting there. I
did the rogue thing (dropped everything but weapons and armor)
and attacked. The nymph seduced me and stole both the sword and
my armor.
I wielded an unidentified mace, only to have it weld to my hand (cursed).
After tracking down the nymph, I killed her by throwing spears and
arrows at her. Having recovered the +5 sword, I couldn't wield it
(since I couldn't unwield the mace). Going to the next level, I
encountered another nymph. I dropped everything, and attacked her
with the cursed mace. Voila! She stole it.
