SPOILER!!SPOILER!!SPOILER!!SPOILER!!SPOILER!!SPOILER!!SPOILER!!
(somewhat)
You may not want to read this if you haven't got very far
in Hack ..
Well, 3 days after installing Hack and suffering
thru a bunch of *very* short games, I made it to lvl 28
and back.
Random comments:
I ate an L early and used that to rob shopkeepers blind.
With all the enchant armors I had, I would up with AC -7. Never
took off anything for Rs. On the way back, I killed all the
shopkeepers I saw, heh heh. Also, I identified a ring of teleport
control later .. that's what caused the big game, I guess. It's
great. Once I read magic mapping, and there was a vault on the level
(I suspect every level has a vault) .. so I teleported into
the vault, picked up $$$$ and left (after first trying to
kill the guard, which didn't work). Also, I encountered/killed
all but (I think) 'c' 'g' ':' ',' 'w' (wumpus) and 'u'.
I didn't find the only demon I faced any trouble; dragons were
wimpy except when they roasted me (and other monsters!). And
once on a deep level I quaffed monster detection and saw a segment
of the dungeon absolutely congested with monsters .. just crawling all
over with real nasties, it was unbelievable. So I left. No
guts to fight *that* crowd. Although I was slaughtering everything,
for once, sigh. Sometimes I was just surrounded '%'s.
A cute trick: lead a string of Orcs after you into a teleport ^,
and watch them pop off somewhere. Amusing ..
I have some questions:
Is there anyway to get in/out of vaults (other than
some kind of teleport + ring of teleport control) non-randomly?
Is there anything special about lurkers above and nurses ?
What does a worm tooth do ?
and the big one: in lvl 28, where the maze started (neat
stuff!), I quaffed object detection, and found the amulet. Well,
I marked the spot on the crt and made for there pronto. But
there was a rock over it in such a position that I couldn't
move the rock, and so I couldn't retrieve the amulet. What's
the deal ? Come to think of it, should I have applied the
worm tooth to dig or something ?

So I left. No > guts to fight *that* crowd. Monster congestion like that is called a 'zoo'. I think some machine-run person in the dungeon named 'David' handles all the zoos. They're similar to shops. > Is there anyway to get in/out of vaults (other than > some kind of teleport + ring of teleport control) non-randomly? A wand of digging ought to help. > Is there anything special about lurkers above and nurses ? I believe eating a nurse puts you to max hp. There is also a wand of digging, which you can use to build your own tunnels. I used it to make another exit out of a shop once. -- It's getting lonely around here... {ihnp4 hao ucbvax!nbires}!stcvax!lat Larry Tepper Storage Technology, MD-3T, Louisville, CO 80028 +1 303 673 5435

Far better to remove all armor and wield nothing around them. >> What does a worm tooth do ? >A sharpened worm tooth becomes a crysknife. See DUNE for more details. You sharpen a worm tooth by reading the right scroll over it. Don't drop it, though. A crysknife does 1d12 damage to both large and small monsters, far superior to both 2-H and long swords.
