Just a few comments on the game "Midway" which was distributed in net.sources last week. On the whole, it is enjoyable, but there are a few changes I wouldn't mind seeing. First, islands don't sink, and I wish there were another way to indicate whether Midway was captured. It should be possible to recapture it if the Japanese force holding it is weak enough, or at least to bomb the island if the Japanese hold it. Second, when I die, I always wonder what happened. Isn't it possible to have the game finish? (Was all that sacrifice in vain or not?) On those rare occasions when I'm playing the American side, and plaster the Japanese, I always wonder whether there are any more out there. Isn't it possible to have the game tell you in some way if there are any more enemy left? -- Paul Schinder Astronomy and Astrophysics Center University of Chicago uucp: ..!ihnp4!oddjob!paul

e destroyed. Thus if your flagship is a carrier, once your are out of planes there is nothing that can be done about shooting the guns (other than AA guns) or launching planes from another carrier until your flagship is entertaining the fish. On the whole I think that the game is executed extremely well with a lot of attention to detail. It lacks a bit of realism in that one US ship can destroy X number of Japanese ships (assuming no air raids), but perhaps that can be fixed. I heartily recommend this game to the people on the network if only to see the great displays in practice (don't do it unless the system is LIGHTLY loaded). -- Eugene Kligerman, Department of Computer Science, University of Toronto UUCP: {linus ihnp4 allegra floyd utzoo cornell decwrl uw-beaver}!utcsrgv!eugene
