I don't like giving outright answers, so here are a few hints:
1. The chief must know his way around the place pretty well.
2. How far is it from the top of the tree to the drive bubble?
How strong is the gravity, and how strong are your legs?
3. Are you sure you need to release your ship from the tentacles?
