BTW: The "Official" way to get the treasure south of the lake involves solving
the puzzle of the viewing table. There is another way (called cheating) that
you can get the treasure without ever going into the viewing room. Do the
following:

Leave your lamp and all goodies in the Creepy Crawl

Go to the lake and swim to the southern shore

Save the state of the game.

Go south twice. This will result in getting killed about 80% of the time. When
that happens just restore and do it again.

Eventually you will be allowed to the second room without geting killed. From
there you can go and get the treasure. You have a simialar problem when
leaving but since the lamp is in the creepy crawl there are only two dark
rooms that must be traversed to get to it. The same technique will also get
you out.

It has been fixed. Neither the lamp not the torch will fit in the chest in
current versions. BTW: What did the two rooms south of the lake look like?

If you are talking about the "strange key," the way I get it is by taking
the chest to the viewing room and then putting the torch in the chest.
That way you can go to the south shore with some light plus the torch
never burns out so you don't have to worry about you lamp burning out.

Another question: How do you get the royal tresure in the cage?

I have figured out the time machine but I still can`t get them(yes I travelled
to the year 766). I have even figured out how to get to the dungeon master
but he keeps sending me back because I don't have the treasures.

Here's another way: put the lamp into the chest, close the chest, then
take the chest with you when swimming across the lake. Once you
arrive, retrieve the lamp and use it to light the dark passages.

I reported this as a bug two years ago, since it allows you to win with
only 6 of 7 points. It may be fixed in recent versions. There was
another bug involving acquisition of the cloak, so when I first "won"
Zork III I had only 5 of 7 points. I was miffed.

I believe this only works on earlier versions...

Well, the time is about right. If you time things ok, you should be
able to get ahold of the treasure, in the past (see Douglas Adam's notes
on verb tense and time travel |-) ). Now, how are you going to get it back
to the present? A hint: It is only possible to bring back the ring...
