In my relentless pursuit of hints for Zork 2, I was browsing through Bulfinch's Mythology last night. With some help from the index, I came across the following, which looks suspiciously like a clue: There they [Aeneas and the Sybil] were encountered by the three-headed dog, Cerberus, with his necks bristling with snakes. He barked with all his three throats till the Sybil threw him a medicated cake which he eagerly devoured, and then stretched himself out in his den and fell asleep. (Chapter XXXII - The Infernal Regions) The only cakes I've come across are the four in the Tea Room. Of these, three have obvious uses in that neighborhood and the last tends to blast you to smithereens. After doing what I can around there (I still haven't figured out the steel cage/red sphere puzzle), I've tried to take the spare cake with me. It always crumbles into dust. Am I on the right track? I tried putting the cake in the teapot or into water to keep it moist, but the most provocative response to this was "nice try." Hints will be gratefully accepted. -- Ephraim Vishniac [apollo, bbncca, cadmus, decvax, harvard, linus, masscomp]!wanginst!vishniac vishniac%Wang-Inst@Csnet-Relay

No, although this is a clever idea. Leave the doggie until you've figured out most everything else, and the solution will become obvious.
