As for all Infocom text adventure games, your best source of hints is the invisible-ink hint booklet sold by Infocom (formerly sold by the Zork Users Group). For a fraction of the cost of the game, you get a great frustration-resolver.

Hi, I've been playing deadline from Infocom for some time, and I'm completely stuck. It seems I've looked everywhere (incl. diary, medicine bottles, letters, newspaper). I have some thougts on what might have happened, but not the slightest idea who did it. I haven't found a safe, or the second will. I also sometimes have problems formulating the right question. Especially "why" is hard. I'd like to ask Mrs. Robner why she lied to me about her "friend". I'd very appreciate any small clues, which might help me save this mystery. Also, if you have better ideas on how to formulate questions I'd love to know! A few things: a) There ARE red herrings. b) Try following people. c) The notepad is important. d) The gardener can help. e) The safe? Try tapping on the walls (not too useful, actually, but you should be thinking of these things..) f) Have you been analyzing things? Steven
