  1) You can try all possible combinations (yeah, sure, who would be dumb
	enough to do that...moi?) OR you can accidently find it elsewhere.
  2) I have heard there are two endings so you may not need the reactor
       elevator card (I didn't).
  3&4) As far as I know, these are as effective as the reactor elevator
	card.

Brute force isn't that hard. Get to the door and then save the state of the
game.  I then used Lotus 1-2-3 to print a command file of the form:

restore
turn dial to 1
turn dial to 2
    .
    .
    .

and ran planetfall < file. worked great.

there are more than two endings. In fact the ending depends on what
comnbination of systems you managed to restore before triggering the
endgame sequence.
