About two weeks ago, I posted a message asking for new games that have the same variety, complexity, and interest as Cosmic Encounter. So far I have gotten a few responses, and these have been amazingly consistent. About 4 games were on almost all of the respondents' lists: Illuminati (+ expansions sets) Talisman (+ expansions sets) Dune Nuclear War/Nuclear Escalation Other suggestions have included: Junta Acquire Empire Builder I want to thank the people who have responded so far, and I'd also like to see more responses (boy, this net thing is great! the sheer bulk of readers makes for quite an information bank..). Steven PS Something I forgot to mention in my first message: we already have all 9 expansion sets to CE. (Speaking of which, I've heard a rumor that a new version is coming out. Can anyone verify or elaborate on this?)

Steven Grady wanted to know about rumors concerning a new version of COSMIC ENCOUNTER. I talked to a Marketing Rep from West End Games at ORIGINS last year. She told me that in the summer of 1986, WEG would be offering a new "version" of CE that was merely re-packaging. The basic game would consist of the current original game, plus the first two expansion sets. There will be about four (5? ...failing memory...) expansion sets in the future, which will be merely rebundled versions of the current ones. I specifically asked her if there was any point in getting the new version, if I already had the basic set and all the expansion sets. Her answer: "Except to replace a worn-out game, there'd be no good reason for you to get the new version." Rob Mitchell {allegra,ihnp4}!mtuxo!jrrt Es un entreverado loco, lleno de lucidos intervalos.
