[net.games] ball blazer, a review

Rollerball has come to video games. Ball Blazer by Lucasfilm
games distributed by EPYX is the BEST arcade game available for
personal computers. Dan Borlin did it first with Choplifter in
getting a home computer game to make it to the coin arcade game
market and I think BallBlazer will be the next.

Ball Blazer a futuristic sport played in hover-cars over a
checkerboard grid is soccer like in that the goal is to get
the ball between the goal posts. The view is from the cockpit
with one player's view taking up the top half of the screen and
the other's taking up the bottom half. The hover-cars always
face the ball unless they are in possesion of the ball then they
face their goal. Physics are (is?) important here, the ball carries
extra mass so a car with a ball moves slower and when you shoot for
the goal you get a recoil effect from the ball. The music is great
(I am addicted to the moon patrol theme so I am easily influenced
by arcade themes) and the graphics are SUPERB. FAST animation and
all on a micro computer!

I bet your joysticks will wear out before you get tired of this
game (but please have someone else to play against, the 4th
computer level player is just too hard and there are 8 levels).
