I am involved in a research project about uses of electronic mail and during our discussions, we stumbled on to USENET, as it were. I am interested in any research that has been done on making net news more usable, on how it is used, etc. Specifically, has anyone looked at other ways of classifying news (other than the current system of news groups)? Does anyone know a way that's easier to use than having the sender give keywords? Is anyone looking at social issues, such as privacy (should you know who reads your news item), etc.? More general research about USENET would also be interesting, as would information about standardization of news messages, mail, etc. Any pointers to research in this general area will be welcomed. As I do not regularly read all of these news groups, please mail me any information. If there is demand, I will send summaries of what I get.
