"Paraverbals" (my term) are the sounds (e.g. "um", "un-huh") we use in
conversation to let the other party know whether or not we hear, understand,
agree with what's being said.  Is anyone out there doing work in this field?
(From asking around MIT, it appears to be so completely ignored that there
isn't even a name for the phenomena, which is why I had to make one up.)
