[net.rec.skydive] Ripcords again? Parachutist article

alcmist@ssc-vax.UUCP (Frederick Wamsley) (07/13/84)

<i want a new bug>

An article in this month's issue of Parachutist lists all the things
that can go wrong with hand-deploy pilot chutes and suggests that
maybe people should go back to ripcords for their main parachutes.

I wonder if anyone else shares my reaction to this idea, which is
to take away the author's square and make him jump a nice, reliable,
proven 24-foot twill.

Of course people can have horrible screwups with hand-deploys. That's
because some people will have trouble with *any* possible system.
I could post some ripcord horror stories ...

Seriously, read the article. It is worth listening to, even if you
disagree.

P.S. If you are bored because you never see anything on this newsgroup,
don't be shy - post something! I have never met a jumper who didn't
have something to say.
