[net.rec.skydive] Sentinel Mark 2000 grounded by SSE last month

<I hope you choke on it>
My copy of Skydiving magazine reports that on Sep. 28 SSE Inc.,
which makes the popular Sentinel AAD, sent out a safety bulletin
recommending that all Sentinels be removed from service immediately.
They said the reason was that they'd received reports of
"unwanted and unexplained" activations.

I don't know whether this is still in effect.

Please note that this affects *all* Mark 2000s, regardless of
when they were made.

I found the announcement rather puzzling. Sentinels have been
blowing off on landing or at high altitude for years, and SSE
never seemed to think it was a problem. Of course, if I got
$17 for each replacement cartridge, I wouldn't think it was a
problem either.

I'm of the opinion that the FXC is a better automatic release.
Has anyone had bad experiences with the FXC 12000? --Fred Wamsley
