Did any brave souls get out there and skydive during this last cold wave that swept a large part of the country? I DIDN'T! I remember very clearly when I made one when it was about 30 deg F on the ground -- which puts it at near 6 deg F at 8000' (3 deg drop per thou, isn't it?). I recall feeling the air rip right through my chest -- I thought my hands, nose, and ears were going to break off on openning. They didn't. You tough folks that jump in the winter up North -- you can have it! I'm gonna wait for some nice warm weather. ============================================================================== Dane Meyer ARPA: ==> Meyer%waltz%TI-CSL@CSNET-Relay CSNET: ==> Meyer@TI-CSL USENET: ==> {convex!smu, ut-sally, texsun, rice}!waltz!meyer

A few years ago I did some dives with a hardy bunch in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. When the weather is very cold they wear neoprene face masks or put masking tape over their faces to avoid frostbite on cheeks, chin & nose. I did some CRW with them. It was 10 below on the ground. We climbed to 8 grand in a Cessna 172 with the door on. The exit, pushing out through the door was easy with the aircraft throttled right back. The temperature was warmer at altitude than on the surface! Very pleasant CRW conditions. I'm sure the dense air gave us a lot more air time - the landings were very floaty.
