Regarding the comments of vic (..!ihuxk!vhm55611), I have seen on my '78 the problem he mentions about the idle speed remaining high after I've slowed down from highway driving to in-town driving. The problem also shows up sometimes if I'm crawling through a traffic back-up. I don't know what causes it either, but I've found that putting the engine under load after stopping (just putting the car into 1st and starting up) brings the engine speed back down to normal. Vacuum dips quite low when you start out in gear (I used to watch a gauge I had on my old '76 Rabbit), so perhaps the vacuum keeps something stuck in place and makes the engine continue running fast. Anybody else know more about this? mhuxv!cc-PDT!pdt
