I've got a 1980 Rabbit C, the last year with painted steel bumpers. The rest of the car has held up well, but the bumpers (and bumper guards) suffer from chipped paint and subsequent rust. Sure, I sand and touch-up, but I'm looking for a long-term solution. Does someone make plastic bumper covers? I guess I could buy replacement chrome bumpers, but that seems like an expensive alternative. Has anyone else had this experience or did VW goof the day my car was made (in Dec. 79)?
