[net.games.frp] D&D GM aids

Well, I tried to use mail to respond to the 3-ring binder
article, but to no avail. ihnp4 doesn't seem to want to
mail to where I want it to mail (rats). This may be of
	general interest anyhow.

What I think would be great is to set up a database of
machine readable charts and other game aids. Currently
I am designing new combat rules for FRP. These will all
be machine readable (since I am using nroff, tbl, and the
like). Included in the rules are several charts on critical
hits and fumbles. I hope to get more of the charts I use
in machine readable form during the summer.

As of now, most of my charts are in 3-ring binders, some
out of AD&D books, some out of A&G, some from A&E, some
from places I forget, and still more original ones (both
	mine and friends).

What about the rest of you?

In the Dark Ages B.A. (Before AD&D), I constructed a custom built
looseleaf rule book. I took my copy of The Books (M&M, M&T, UG&W, GH,
BM, EW), C&S, The Dragon, The Wild Hunt, Alurums & Excursions, et
cetera, an Exacto Knife, a pot of Rubber Cement, and a photo- copier
and constructed a work that had the corrections and enhancements of the
Suppelments merged with the text of the 3 Books and the options I had
adopted from the Other Sources and written originally.

I consider my use of photo-copiers legal and ethical since the process
consisted of duplicating the back side of pages removed from the books
being pasted on notebook filer. The result was no more and no fewer
USABLE copies of the text than were purchased.

However, TSR might not find your creation of looseleaf manuals by any
process other than one-for-one rebinding to be harmless to them. They
are known to 'enforce' their legal rights with gusto.

I would recommend you have your local bindery de-bind new manuals and
punch them with 19 square holes (such as plastic 'spiral' bindings use)
and mount them in metal-ring binders similar in function to 3-ring
binders but much sturdier and less prone to tearing.
