[net.games.frp] Oaths

asente@decwrl.UUCP (Paul Asente) (10/11/83)

In a world in which I play frequently, th GM plays oaths this way:

Gods cannot directly interact with inhabitants of the prime material plane
unless the inhabitant has directly called upon the god (worshipping is one
way of doing this) or the inhabitant is on a god's holy ground. This keeps
the gods from mucking around with us too much. If you swear an oath by a
god, you are now subject to the god if he wishes to do something to you.
Most gods do not like people swearing oaths by their name and not keeping
them! This gives the god a bad name. (There are some gods that just don't
care about this, though, and some which actively protect oathbreakers).
There is even one god that cares about nothing else but keeping oaths, so
an oath sworn by his name is going to be kept, or else!
