Subject: Creative use of spells Newsgroups: net.games.frp Really, now. How many DM's allow you to walk around with a dead Medusa's head? When a medusa dies, the magic of her gaze no longer opeates; it is linked to her life force. If you are able to stone things with the medusa head, then why not carry around a catoblepas head in a box with one end open? Everything you meet dies, no saving throw. The basilisk idea is not bad, but how are you going to carry the thing? You can't expect to be able to manage toting around several hundred pounds (10' long) of ANGRY lizard while still taking your normal actions, as well as making it look where you want it to and ONLY there. As for subduing dragons: the obvious solution is to require beating one down to <=0 hit points using subdual damage, with none of this percentages bull. By standard monster manual rules, a 1-point punch with a dagger pommel from a 0 level nobody actually has a chance of subduing a huge ancient red or gold. Give me a break (or rather, give the dragons a break). -- Christopher Ross !genrad!mit-eddie!zaphod Zaphod@MIT-EECS
