I have just recently picked up the boxed edition of Star Fleet Battles.
The game strikes me as intriguing. The rules make it appear to be one of the
most complex games I have ever seen, yet wading through it all it seems fairly
straight-forward.
I have several questions for USENET readers regarding this game:
* how many of you have played Star Fleet Battles?
* do you play regularly?
* how long have you been playing?
I have started to implement SFB on Unix in hopes of achieving a better
understanding of some of the intricacies of the game. Has anyone else tried
this? The game seems hierarchical enough that it can be implemented in layers
(i.e., you don't have to go to the detail of supporting separate warfare by the
detached booms of D-7 heavy cruisers before you have a playable game).
Let me hear from some other SFB fans out there. Also, if there is a group
in the Boston area which plays this game regularly and wouldn't mind a novice
observer/participant, please let me know you exist.
