****************************************************************** Subject: Lanissan Chronicles -Character Introductions [Issue 1] Intro: Our tale of adventure begins in the country of Lanissa, where a temperate climate and a benevolent monarch reign. Athena is the patron of both the capital city, Tark Cindel, and the aging and wee bit senile paladin, King Threor. Throughout the land Grecian mythos pervades, even in the small backwater hamlet of Blund. Here the main source of commerce is the winery, so it is fitting that most of the town worships Dionysis, yet there is a small temple for Athena as well. Come over to Good Time Charlie's with me; we'll have a few mugs of mead to quench our thirst, and I'll introduce you to my adventuring friends, the Blunders: Alexis: At nineteen, Alexis is the youngest member of the party. Had it not been for her friendship with Odyssa, formed as they studied together to become clerics of Athena, she would not have become involved in adventuring. Raised as the pampered daughter of a well healed merchant and respected cleric of Tark Cindel, one would have expected her to become perhaps a scribe or a librarian. It is her consuming desire to buy a great cat from the Beast Lord, which motivates her as she advances into dimly lit dungeon rooms in search of treasure. Allium Sativa: Is young elf, from out in the sticks. She is not exactly what one would call attractive, what with her less than sterling physical appearance and horrific tendency to pun. She is also somewhat timid, that being because she clearly is a lot better at throwing things rather than hitting from close up. She isn't very enamored of fighters, especially the blundering, impetuous kind that tend to smash down doors rather than quietly unlock them, nor is she very fond of loud parties or persons who are fraught with indecision (and whose arguments attract every monster within 200'). In other words, Allie seems to be a very, very cautious elf with a special interest in staying alive, even when her companions seem to be feel otherwise about themselves. For some odd reason, Allie seems to sort of like Hildy, even though Hildy is usually the blundering (gee, given the town name, is there any surprise?) sort. [rabbit!jj] Brunhilde: Brunhilde is a female berserker. A berserker is a fighter that is so much into fighting that he or she may go berserk any time there is even a hint of a chance for a fight. A berserker fights better when he or she is berserk; a good thing! However, I did say "may go berserk." What happens is that Brunhilde does not have complete control on whether to go berserk when starting a fight or to calm down when the fight is over; a bad thing! Brunhilde has, in the past, hacked up her friends after the monsters have been defeated by the party, because she did not calm down! This bothers Brunhilde. She does not really understand the nature of a berserker, though she does "enjoy" hacking up anyone, friend or foe, when she is berserk. All of this is complicated by the fact that Brunhilde has amnesia; she does not know a thing about herself! She does know that she is obviously Nordic in origin, and is clearly trained to be a fighter, but why a berserker? And why does she yell "Hoyo-to-ho" when she charges into a melee? So many questions and no answers. [hogpd!kenchan] Gary: Is another young elf from a distant country who is trying to become a magic user, and having a rather tough time of it. Besides the somewhat impetuous and curious nature of youth, he is also a rather timid and cautious young man. In general, he tends to hang in the back of any activity. Though, on occasion, he will rush into the fray without any regard to safety. He is also touchy about his rights and sensitive to any imagined slight. These personality faults are augmented by a sporadic sense of muleishness, causing problems within the party. Gary does have one good point. He is usually willing to cut his losses and run, if the situation appears to warrent it. [houxz!llf] Odyssa: Born in Stepoff, a small village near the eastern border of Lanissa, Odyssa is both a seamstress and sculptress by trade, and a cleric by desire. Strong shoulders accent her aura of power and strengthen a visage which has all the allure of polished marble. While she ardently desires the virtues of self-control, not even the temple's training has taught her to contain the volcanic enthusiasm which constantly catapults her into impetuous action. Devoted to Athena and unswervingly loyal to her new companions, passion propells her, even to the point of obliterating her instincts for self-preservation, as she begins yet another "career" as an adventuress. [houxe!chris] Let me offer you a taste of Blund's finest, and while you sip the best wine in the world, I shall tell you how we acquired these dungeon maps.
