It has been over a year since I last did this (in another net, in another state), and I want to bring it up here, both to surprise those that don't know the answer, and to provide true RPG fanatics a place to realize how small the ratio: RPGs owned (or played) -------------------------- RPGs published is really getting. In about a week, I will drop into this file what I believe to be a definitive list of American, British, and Australian RPGs published over the last 10 and one-half years. That is, beginning with the original, brown box (anybody have one of those left?) Dungeons and Dragons all the way up to RQ 3, Paranoia, Time and Time Again, and half a dozen others that were released at the last GenCon. Until then, I'd like to pose the question which originally got me to begin this list in 1981: Is the RPG hobby getting too big to be able to know completely about the hobby, without being an "insider" (such as a designer, publisher, free-lancer, etc.)? Let me also add another question: could it be possible to start specializing in one particular facet of the hobby? [YES! Answer one million AD&D fanatics :-)] Let's talk about the hobby of gaming for a while, instead about the practice of gaming...
