mff@wuphys.UUCP (Dr. Lizardo) (10/31/84)
Here is the toughest character I've played. In the A.D&D. campaign he was run in, we started out as third-level characters. It took about 2 years to get him up to this level. CHARACTER NAME: Morlock STATISTICS: S:6 I:18 W:10 C:10(15) (currently 10, but origionally 15) D:9 Ch:14 CLASS: Magic User Level: 12 Exp: 966,399 G.P.: 158,646 HTK: 40 AGE: 50 (death at 119) Special Abilities: 1) Permanent Mind Blank (Permanenced by the great Arch-Mage Gladspell(30th level) 2) Permanent Comprehend Languages 3) Photographic Memory (Bestowed upon him by Thoth) Posessions: Staff of Power(cont. light, dark 5', levit., light. bolt, ray of enfeeb., cone of cold, fireball, shield 5', globe of inv., paralysis) Bracers AC 6, Prot. Ring +3, +1/+2 dagger, +3 cloak, Broom of Flying, Wand of Frost, Wand of Fire, Wand of Secret Door and Mech. Trap Detection, Medallion of Thought Projection(90' range), 2 figurines of wonderous power(gt. scorpions), Chime of Opening(40 charges) Comments: With the above items, AC=-2 ST adjustment=+8. Also note that the Medallion of Thought Projection, while normally a cursed item, operates normally because of the Mind Blank. General Comments: Morlock is a great and powereful wizard, by his own admisson. A worshiper of Thoth( the Egyptian god of knowledge), he has worked to gather books, scrolls, and other things containing knowledge. He is the founder of the University of Ulien and its Library. He considers this to be his most important accomplishment. With an I.Q. of 18, and the permanent photographic memory and comp. lang., he has gained sage-like abilities. He now spends most of his time at the University, studying and researching. He will "sell" his knowledge, as any other sage, but not for money(except for that needed to perform any neccasary research). What he demands in payment is more knowledge. The information received should be of equal importance and obscurity as that given. The type of knowledge he specializes in is Magic and the aquisition of information. If involved in combat, he will virtually always proceed as follows. First, get out of immediate danger. This is usually accomplished by Dim.-dooring, levitation, etc. Then, get up a poly-self(usually into Sylph form). Then, Globe of Invulnerability off the Staff. Then charge in swinging. His preferred attack spell is the magic missle. He always car- ries 2 personal and is in posession of 2 scrolls of these(7 on each). He will not sacrifice himself for another, but will often take risks to help out. But, whenever possible, he would prefer to help from saftey. If it looks like everyone is going to die, he will teleport to safety. Morlock's alignment is an interesting point of conten- tion. He was definitely chaotic-neutral in his younger days. There was one incident involving slitting the wrists of par- alyzed prisoners which is better left undiscussed. He still considers this to be his alignment, and often speaks as if it were. But his true alignment now is most probably neutral good with chaotic tendencies. One other thing worth mentioning is Morlock's I.Q. When rolled up, he had a 15. Through normal aging, it went up to 16. Now in this campaign, a wish can raise a stat by one point through 16, but not higher. I picked up a couple of wishes from a deck, but couldn't use it to raise my I.Q., at least not directly. I used one wish to turn a potion I already had into a potion of lengevity. Drinking this lowered my IQ to 15. I then wished my IQ up to 16, and then natural aging brought it up to 17. It would go up again, to 18, but not till around 90. So I used another wish (one gotten long afterwards) to permanantly alter all of my stats to what they would normally be when I had aged to 90. This got me the 18. (Unfortunaltly, it also lost me 2 constituion points!) Mark F.
