[net.games.frp] Bragging about my newly researched Druid spell

js2j@mhuxt.UUCP (sonntag) (01/02/85)

So, after ten weeks and an expenditure of about 15,000 gp, my tenth level
druid, Nilrem finally achieved success in his quest for a new fifth
level druid spell: Electrify Druid! If anyone out there has
a high-level druid and you are unsatisfied with the mid-high-level
druid spells in the book, you may want to consider attempting to
con your DM into letting you use this spell. It's especially good
for druids who like to charge into fights.
So what does it do? Here's the way I initially described it:

Range: 0 Components: V,S,M
Duration: 1 rnd/level	Casting time: 7 segments
Area of Effect: Self	Saving Throw: none

One round after casting this spell, the druid is covered in a glowing
blue-white nimbus of snapping, crackling sparks. This does not harm the
druid, although it causes hair and loose clothing to stream outward
and will interfere in the casting of spells with material components.
Anyone touching the druid, and anyone the druid touches, directly, or
through metal (such as sword), receives 1-6 hp of electrical damage.

The DM liked it better after he'd changed a few details, as DM's
are likely to do. Now, no spell casting is possible while this
effect is on, and it does up to 2*level damage with each zap, and a
save is allowed. Also, anyone wearing metal armour who comes within 5' of
of me must save or be zapped.

Unfortunately, I haven't yet been able to try it out, but I can't
wait! Imagine, the invisible druid casts this spell, and you see a
ghostlike form of shimmering electricity appear. You attack and get
shocked badly. It attacks, wounding you and shocking you again, and
a half-elven druid with hair standing on end and sparks leaping off
him appears! Neat effect.
Some may think this too powerful for a fifth level druid spell, but
remember that other fifth level spells include Wall of Fire, Rock to Mud,
etc. Also, remember that druids have a special affinity to electricity,
receiving +2 on saving throws, and the only protection spell against it,
and the rather powerful third level Call Lightning.
