{} I play in a game that is definitely an alternative to D&D. The system has been developed by a friend for over 6 or 7 years. It has a 0 level system, no alignments, and only three character classes, but very little constraints as far as the classes. The classes are Mages, Rogues and Fighters, due to the fact that MAGIC is important fighters are rather one-dimensional since they don't cast magic. Rogues are a combination of Mage-Thief, being able to cast magic and fight effectively. Mages can cast magic and use weapons, magic better than the rogues and wield weapons not as well. Hit points are determined by the constitution not by the experience and magic is cast by using mana which is replenished each day. The only way to learn new magic is to invent it or find somebody to teach it to you. We never get too powerful since the DM won't tell us what magic items do, we have to experiment with them to find out what they do. His job to keep us in line is not too give us too much free time. The most powerful offensive spell in the party is a lighting without an area-effect. He calls the game THREE WORLDS and in the future it may be offered for sale. Since he is still playtesting it. Another way he keeps us in line ... what do you mean my gem no longer holds 500 points of mana, but 30? ... and has anyone ever heard of the shrinking bar of gold spell?
