Go ahead. It would be much more interesting than the current discussion
about (ugh) Paladins.

Nice to see someone mention wars in frps.
And statecraft, power politics and the like.

My campaign has a fairly high political (conflict) content -
which is absolutely necessary for the overall feel, and for
providing end-objectives for my players to aim at.

I am tempted to regurgitate lengthy examples, but I shall desist.

Normally there is one war between every one or two adventures -
one session in six, say.

It's strange, but my players take most delight in actually influencing
the battle result (by extremely reckless bravery), rather than the
social advantages gained by doing so.
It's quite nice for them to have a Cause to fight for, but mostly I
think it makes a pleasant change from the standard adventuring of other
weeks.

Ok, while we're on the subject... Does anyone have a good scenario for
battles or wars in ADD? Anything would be useful, but something in
Greyhawk would be treated with utmost respect.

I'm quite serious. I'm interested in reading write-ups of action in
various people's campaigns. Reading an interesting write-up from a high
power campaign would do more towards convincing me that such campaigns
are worthwhile than four pages of arguments. Likewise, in the case of
Nige's campaign, it might go to show me why wars are fun in a campaign,
and how they can be handled by the DM.

TSR has recently released something called "AD&D BattleSystem" which is a
supplement dealing with large-scale battles and wars. It retails for some
ungodly price (probably around $10--it's the size of one of their boxed
RPGs) and I have yet to meet anyone who's bought or read or used it.

Get behind me, Satan!
Tempt me not.

I assure you it would not be more interesting than <insert the most boring
thing you can imagine here>, except to me, perhaps.
Suffice it to say that Wars are quite fun to GM every so often.

[
GM: Hi, there, chaps, this week there's another war brewing.
Players: Oh, look sorry, Nige, I only came to say that I couldn't make it
this week, I ( have to much work to do

But let's end the subject there, or I'll be compelled to tell you how
I distribute booty and honour, with Mbytes of examples from the Wars

Cuthbert, when the Power behind the throne of England had been weakened

Meet sucker #1. I was considering setting up a new VD&D game and
running some of the historical battles before finalizing the history.
The Battle System looked tailor made and I bought it in a moment of
weakness. The thing goes for about $20.

Don't be fooled by the weight of the box. Most of what you get is
sheets of cardboard counters. There is also a 8 1/2 x 11 "book" of
terrain sheets The rules are sparse at best. If anybody is interested,
I will drag the thing in to work and do a real review.

I rather enjoy hearing stories of other peoples experiences. Not only
are they interesting, but they are full of that rarest of all things:
  *good ideas*

If you wish to tell a good story, then I want to hear it.
