I don't know about you, but the best "healing" spells in the lower levels are Chant and Prayer. A CLW does at most 8 points of cure. Your return with Chant and Prayer are much better, and only improve as the combats get longer. Example: Our front four are in combat for 10 rounds. Out of 40 blows, they are hit 20 times. Damage is 4(x10) and 5(x10) Total 90 points. Out of 40 blows, they hit 20 times. Damage is 4(x10) and 5(x10) Total 90 points. If our Cleric has Chant up: Our front four are in combat for 10 rounds. Out of 40 blows, they are hit 20 times. Damage is 3(x10) and 4(x10) Total 70 points. Out of 40 blows, they hit 20 times. Damage is 5(x10) and 6(x10) Total 110 points. If our Clerics have Chant and Prayer up: Our front four are in combat for 10 rounds. Out of 40 blows, they are hit 20 times. Damage is 2(x10) and 3(x10) Total 50 points. Out of 40 blows, they hit 20 times. Damage is 6(x10) and 7(x10) Total 130 points. These are very simple examples. Please note that I have ignored the effects of the "+/-"'s to hit for each group. With a bit of tactics and planning our group (6@1-3 level, 3@6-9 level) took on over 70 orcs and took almost no damage. -- Dr. Bob UUCP ..!{ihnp4,cbosgd,seismo}!plus5!bob The opinions expressed here are only loosely based on the facts.
