[net.games.frp] FRP a non-glamorous passtime?

pop@bunkerb.UUCP (Paul Pederson) (08/09/85)

Hopefully didn't offend normally unoffendable people by the title of this
article, but something passed through my mind the other day which I thought
might cause some interest.

FRPing has taken somewhat of a public beating in the hands of certain
right-wing fringe groups within the USA recently. Not much
needs to be said about the methods and half-truths which these groups
have used. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

It seems as if FRPing is a passtime which most popular amongst the
a slightly different breed of folk. Since there are no real public
figures which support or even admit to be FRPers, it is easy for these
lunatics to attack FRPing because it is something which only "they" do.
You can make up your own definition of the word "they".

I'm curious. Does anyone know of any public figures which play or have
played FRP games? Political figures? Popular musicians? Management of
leading industries? or are there indeed not any public figures who know
what "we" do around the table on certain afternoons and evenings??????
Perhaps there are public figures who play in the "closet" so as not to
tarnish their image in front of the right-wing fringe?

If anyone knows of such a public figure who plays, drop me a note or maybe
post his/her name on this news group if he/she wouldn't mind. Names of
people who have gained fame within the gaming industry are rather
obvious, so don't bother.
