[net.games.frp] Metagaming

Does anyone know about a pair of games called Melee (a hand-to-hand
combat system) and Wizard (a spell combat system) produced by a company
called Metagaming (or something like that) out of Austin , Texas? If
anyone does-- and especially if anyone knows where I can get these games
or how to reach the company-- I'd appreciate feedback by electronic
mail. Thanks.

I have a copy of these games. The company is now out of business and the
author of the games, Steve Jackson, is unwilling to pay them the 6 figure
price they put on the rights. Apparently they're ticked off at him for
going into competition with them by selling another game he wrote for them,
OGRE. Looks like another nasty feud... he's working on a new system, but
it's nothing like The Fantasy Trip (the game that Wizard/Melle are parts of),
which is a pity. I use TFT extensively... it's a very nice system when you
discard the "economic system". As long as you don't play with powergamers,
anyway.

I'm having trouble reading this note, Katie (or is it katie?). It would
help if you would punctuate and capitalize.

A word of warning for people looking for 'Melee' and 'Wizard': Metagaming
went out of business several years ago when the shining light of the company,
Steve Jackson (yes, that Steve Jackson) left the company to form his own.
'Melee' and 'Wizard' can still be gotten, but only from collectors, used
book/game stores, garage sales, and the like. Which is unfortunate, because
'The Fantasy Trip', the game system which Wizard and Melee are subsets of,
is excellent!
