[net.games.frp] Steam Tunnel Dangers

ekblaw@uiucdcs.CS.UIUC.EDU (10/11/85)

After reading the preceding article about the MSU steam tunnels, I feel that
I must comment. Here at the University of Illinois, we also have a problem
with students entering and goofing arond in the steam tunnels. Although I
don't know of any gamers going down there and playing, I'll bet some of them
have.

The fact is, those d*mn tunnels are dangerous!!! The University was telling
people this, and nobody believed it. At least, they didn't believe it until
somebody went down there, injured himself, and died down there. Since then,
University officials have sealed (cemented, I believe) all the known openings
into those tunnels. I haven't heard of anyone down there since, so I guess
they did a good job.

My advise to any University students on the net (from anywhere across the
country) who know of steam tunnels at their campus, DON'T GO DOWN THERE!
The risks are too great.

I hope they made sure everyone was out! :-)
