[net.games.frp] MERP spells and potions

<I hope the line-eater gets indigestion on this>

Hi there folks in network land, does anyone play MERP ?
I've come across a little problem in one of my scenarios.... the prices of some of the herbs, along with their effects. If anyone knows any herbs, their habitat, price and effects, I would be grateful to them if they could mail me the details to add to my own list. Also, has anyone out there devised some new spell lists, I would also be interested in them.

PS. be careful who you let have the 'airwall' spell, since in confined spaces,
(ie shops, markets, etc.), they allow a tremendous distraction to draw off the
local militia, destroy a shop etc. --S--

I have a feeling that if I knew what MERP stood for, I might have heard
of it. What is MERP? I would appreciate it if you would mention what
an abbreviation stands for the first time you use it. I make one
exception (actually two): I assume that readers of this group know
that D&D stands for Dungeons and Dragons and that AD&D stands for
Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. I do not assume that you all know what
EGG, TFT, MM, DDG, LAL, DMG, PH, OA, UA, NADWAS, TEfL, TGatEOF, etc.
stand for.

Thank you and may your god go with you.

Simon:

Yes, I have played MERP (Middle Earth Role Playing, from Iron Crown
Enterprises).

Concerning MERP spells and potions and herbs and habitats:

Iron Crown also produces:

Character Law/Campaign Law: (Now combined in a single book...be sure to
get the single book, rather than its predecessors.)
This book tells how to set up characters, campaigns, etc., in the
ROLEMASTER system, of which MERP is a subset.
     It includes a complete description/prices/habitat/chance of finding/etc.
of herbs, armor, weapons, items, etc.

Spell Law: A compendium of spells, and the laws that govern spell casting.
In my opinion, this is truly the finest set of magic and magic laws
so far created for fantasy role playing.

Arms Law/Claw Law: The complete guide to arms, armor, and combat.

Creatures and Treasures: A monster manual set up for MERP or Rolemaster,
as well as a guide to treasures, magic items, artifacts, etc.

Hey, I'm not trying to sell Rolemaster and/or MERP, but the foregoing
manuals/books are where you'll find answers to your query.

OK. What *do* they stand for? I know the Great Egg, The Fantasy Trip,
Monster Manual, Deities & Demigods, Legends & Lore (?), Dungeon Master's Guide,
Players' Handbook, Oriental Gangbang, Unearthed Drivel, but
TEfL, TGatEOF ?
How about a list of Roleplaying abbreviations & acronyms?
Might even be useful!

Sorry, I pulled a fast one here. The last three of those are from other
areas of interest (not FRP). NADWAS is the North American Doctor Who
Appreciation Society. TEfL is the title of a book by Robert Heinlein, "Time
Enough for Love". TGatEoF is the name of a Star Trek episode (they love
abbreviations over in net.startrek), "The Guardian at the Edge of Forever".
(Notice, I misspelled it in the original message.

I agree about this! It would definitely interesting and useful. I will
volunteer to collect and tabulate the list, if you would send mail to me
with lists of abbreviations. Sound like a good idea?

Cheers
