Thus the quest begineth...
Q U E S T F O R T H E E L F S W O R D R U L E S
MOVES: A "move" constitutes a single command, action, verb, etc. This can be
as verbose as you wish just as long as you get your point across.
MOVING: Use the tradition compass directions when moving about. Unless you
tell me different, I will assume your character(s) move until he finds
something of interest. I always assume you are "checking for traps"
when moving. After all, what seasoned adventurer doesn't (:-). This
does not mean you will always find them. When moving outdoors, you
will move until you either encounter something, or reach your planned
destination. A map will be furnished each Monday with the location
of all characters in the realm.
COMBAT: When you encounter a "monster" for the first time, you will only be
given a description of the creature. You must determine what that
creature is and what the best means of dispatching it are.
I have reduced melee to 3 simple steps:
STEP 1 - Choose your weapon, spell, etc
STEP 2 - List your "to hit" and "damage" figures even if you don't
think you hit. If you are using a spell, just list the
spell, the % of success/fail, and the results.
STEP 3 - Repeat 20 times for each character. Only list the weapon
in use the first time unless you change weapons during combat
in which case you will likely loose some attacks. Please use
the following format when listing all this:
WEAPON/SPELL
HIT/DAM/RESULT
Use 2 columes of 10 please...
##/## ##/##
##/## ##/##
and so on...
I will calculate all the hit/miss and damage and either tell you the victor
or request more combat figures if the melee is still unresolved.
All responses will be through the mail. Each move will be responded to as
fast as my little dBASE program can process the move. The net will only be used
for the MONDAY update posting.
MISC STUFF: The MONDAY UPDATE will list all characters, their location in the
realm, and other public information. Nothing will be posted
which might harm the secretive nature of a PC. In addition to
this information, a tactical map will be posted with the location
of each character currently active in the campaign.
As for the ultimate goal of the game, I've cleverly hidden it
within the title, but do not be deceived. There is MUCH MORE
to completing the quest than meets the eye.
Thus endeth the rules.........for now...

UPDATE for 12/14/85 MONDAY
HEADLINE from the "Dungeon Gazette"
Hundreds of adventures soon to be appearing in the Elven Realm. Local
pubs are stocking up on ale and false rumors while monsters eagerly
await a fresh challenge and a free meal.
The king's hopes are raised by the prospect of peace being restored to
the kingdom once again. For more info see Elf Conflict 2c.
ELF CONFLICT continued from front page.
For nearly a century now, the Elven Realm has be torn apart by the
seemingly endless war between the Drow and the Good Elves. Until now, the only
advantage the Good Elves had in this battle was the powerful ElfSword which
could kill any Drow on contact, and when used with the powerful RuneStaff,
prevented the Drow from even venturing to the surface. Only now the ElfSword
has been stolken, and the RuneStaff is missing along with the young Elf Prince,
Arik, heir to the throne of Eanor. The Drow are surfacing to wage full scale
war against their "brothers". The Good Elves are slowly losing the battle.
The king seeks brave adventurers to recover the ElfSword which rumor has it,
was stolen in connection with a diabolical plot engineered by the Drow.
CLASSIFIED: Help Wanted
WANTED: Brave Adventurers to recover the ElfSword, rescue
the Prince, find the RuneStaff, and restore peace
to the Realm. Applicants should send resumes with
references to:
The Castle
Att. King Elrond
Eanor (The capital)
or apply in person to the same address. Applicants
must be at least 6th level and have previous adventuring
experience. Excellent pay and benefits. Good Medical
& Life Insurance Plan.

NOTES TO ALL PLAYERS
To answer some of the questions I have already received:
All characters may start at 2nd level with maximum hit points. This will
give you a fighting chance for survival. If you are one of those players
like me who get the greatest satisfaction from nursing a 1st level character
through the ranks, by all means, feel free to do so.
No more than 2 characters per player
If you are worried about the above reference in the CLASSIFIED regarding 6th
level, fear not. By the time you reach Eanor, you will be at LEAST 6th level
and hopefully be familar with the layout of the Realm. All characters will
start in random cities throughout the Realm. This will allow for parties to
form and experience to be gained.
Alignments are restricted to Good, Neutal, or Evil. Any class may be used
which I can reference in the AD&D manuels. No other classes will be run at
this time. (Maybe later)
Please send any and all suggestions for improving the flow of the game. They
will be greatly appreciated and if I use your suggestion their might be some
additional X.P. awarded to your characters(s).
So tell your friends......and your enemies...
It's time to go adventuring!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have already received several characters. To those of you who have not
sent yours in yet, please hurry. I am currently processing the character
information and will be sending out the finished characters within the week.
Look for your first game installment with your character. Monday's posting
will list all players and will have the anxiously awaited for "Map of the
Realm" which will show you exactly where you are.
