Several people have written me saying that they didn't get Monday's Posting. So here it is one more time.... The Realm was shocked today, when Leif Sternson, famed adventurer, and world traveler crossed the treacherous Southern Peaks and discovered an unknown portion of the Realm. While it has always been known that life did exist outside of the Realm, no one has ever been able to cross any of the deadly barriers which form the boundries of the Realm. Sternson was unavailable for comment, but rumor has it that there is a great desert and another range of mountains further south. One of Sternson's companions, Eric the Red, said that they planned to seek funding for further expedtions to map the area and locate any inhabitants. Nothing further has developed in the Elven Conflict; however, there was a devestating attack on the city of Glendale by the infamous Diablo. Much of the city was destroyed by fires, and while there were no fatalities, several citizens were severely wounded. It has not been confirmed if this attack was related in some way to the invasion of the Drow. There have also been reports of a Green Dragon in the vicinity of Fairbourne. Several sightings report that the dragon appears to be living in the sinister Forbidden Forest. Classified: Wanted: Passage off the Isle of Doom See man in loincloth waving on the south beach. To those of you who still can't reach me by mail. Count to 10 then we'll all scream together. By now I have posted a list of all players who I am having trouble communicating with. If you were on this list please verify the path I am sending your mail by. If it is wrong, please send me one or more alternate paths which I might try. Pur-phy is responsible for a majority of the difficulties. I hope we can get all these mailing problems ironed out by the end of the month so we can get down to some serious adventuring. Parties are beginning to form so it is time for "Party Rules". o There is no limit to the number of characters in a Party. o There should be at least 3 characters in a Party before leaving the first module. o I will provide all addresses necessary so Party members can communicate amongst themselves. o If there are communication problems or you would rather not receive mail, Party members may communicate through me. o All Parties must elect a spokesman. You will then decide on a course of action and the spokesman will be responsible for sending me the move. o Being in a party will not lessen your score. Everyone is scored individually. All treasure will be divided equally unless there is something which warrants greater shares going to one or more characters (i.e. Two party members kill a monster while on guard duty and the other three members are asleep. In this case xp. and treasure would be divided between the two who did all the work) At this time there is only one party. If problems arise there may be several changes in the party system. We'll just have to wait and see. Several questions have come up about spells. I run spells a little differently than the book although I use the same spells listed in TSR's Player's Handbook. I DO NOT run cantrips or any spells from the Unearthed Arcana. Here's how spells work: To determine how many spells you can memorize/cast in one day (16 hours), add 1 spell per level of experience and 1 spell for each point of intelligence over 15. (i.e. A 2nd level mage with a 17 INT may cast 4 spells per day). All magic using classes are required to get at least 8 hours sleep each day or they will only be able to cast their 1 spell per level without the INT bonus. You may cast spells of a higher level than you are capable of ONLY under these circumstances: o The spell is on a scroll. You may not copy this scroll into a book either. o You will be at a -30% plus -10% for each level the spell is greater than your casting capabilities. (i.e. If you are 2nd level and you try to cast a 3rd level Knock spell you will do so at -40%.) o When you fail to properly cast a higher level spell several things might happen including; backfires, side effects, or other unpredictable options which my deviant mind can improvise. There hasn't been a chance for spell casting in combat yet so there will probably be several changes made before its all ironed out. At this time I would like to outline the structure of the Campaign. It is comprised of several modules (of my own creation) which are played in a predetermined sequence. While the sequence may be altered, the original campaign was designed using this order: 1. Invasion of the Drow 2. Diablo's Domain 3. Citadel in the Sky 4. The Forbidden Forest 5. The City on the Sea 6. Night of the Comet 7. The Isle of Doom Each of these modules completes a specific part of the Quest. Special bonus points will be awarded to the person or party who completes a part of the quest. Additional points will be awarded to the first player(s) who complete the entire quest. The campaign is scored, tournament style, with points being awarding for certain accomplishments plus killing monsters, gaining treasure, etc. Going to a module without completing the previous one will NOT get you any more points, and you probably won't know what to do, since all these are tied together with strong sequential bonds, rumors, plots, etc. On the first Monday of each month, I will post a Score Sheet which will list all the characters, the module they are currently in and their score so everyone can see how everyone else is doing. This Score Sheet will be posted separately from the regular Monday Posting.
