[ont.jobs] Looking Glass Software seeks systems programmer to work on programming environment

brad@looking.UUCP (Brad Templeton) (01/19/85)

LGS is a small company whose primary product is the "Alice" system - an
interactive programming environment based on a syntax-directed editor.

(Syntax-directed editors are editors that work with programs as programs, using
units like variables, statements, expressions and routines instead of the
line and character units of text editors. They provide help and make syntax
errors impossible. This one also detects all semantic errors at entry time
and includes an integrated interpreter/debugger)

Alice has been chosen by the Ministry of Education to teach programming
in Ontario secondary schools. It is thus designed for teaching, with
large volumes of on-line help to make programming (and the system) easy
to learn and do. The system is also being developed for sale on popular
16 bit microcomputers. It makes use of windows and pointing devices to
produce a nice user interface. Alice will change the way the world learns
to program.

If you would like to participate in this project, give me a call.
I'm looking for somebody with experience in language systems and compilers.
We do all our work on Unix, in C. No fixed hours, but plenty of challenging
stuff to do.

Salary up to $36K based on experience, with additional juicy profit sharing
to entice you in. People graduating this term will be considered, as
well as those available now or in the near future.

I'm Brad Templeton - call me at 519/884-7473. The company is located in
downtown Waterloo.
