Omnibus Computer Graphics operates 3D animation facilities in Toronto, Los Angeles and New York, and owns five VAX and four IRIS computers running UNIX 4.2 BSD and System 5 respectively. Omnibus Toronto is currently seeking a UNIX computer system administrator taking on the following responsibilities: * Expand and maintain inter-site UNIX CSNET network and local Ethernet * Maintain accounts and filesystems * Monitor and fine tune UNIX performance * Maintain mail and UNIX News system * Invesitgate and make recommendations on hardware purchases * Train non-technical users in the use of UNIX * Write programs to drive film and video recorders * Write UNIX, graphics and typesetting programs * Define and carry out system administration policies Qualifications: Applicant should be thoroughly conversant with UNIX, posessing several years experience with the operating system. A B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent is required as well as strong skills in organization and planning. Abilities to troubleshoot hardware and software is an asset. In addition, applicant should have reasonable skills in dealing with non-technical users. Omnibus owns a UNIX source licence for 4.2 BSD and System 5. The principal programming language is C. The computing facilities primarily support animation production, research and development and company communications. It interfaces to a video digital frame storage unit, a film recorder and a video editing suite. Omnibus' current R and D group consists of 10 programmers at the three sites.
