My assistant (lsuc!ellen, Ellen Dooley) has just been promoted to Registrar of the Bar Admission Course. This leaves us with an opening for someone to replace her. The job title is "Co-ordinator, Computer Education Facility". Duties include: - day-to-day maintenance of a large (42-port) UNIX system with extensive communications connections (i.e., backups, fixing minor problems with the system and with people's equipment, calling in hardware service, installing user accounts, etc.) - advising and training staff on the use of "mail", "ed" and some basic UNIX commands - maintaining administrative records, processing invoices, keeping track of budget as well as hardware inventory - converting CAI written by lawyers to a simple course authoring language, and getting it onto the system - dealing with the students and lawyers who use our CAI Ellen started from scratch with no background in computers. This time around, I'd prefer someone with a basic knowledge of UNIX system use and operation. If you can program in C, even better. As indicated above, however, the job is only partly systems operation; the other part is "office work", with a potential for substantial responsibilities over time. Salary: negotiable.
