Two challenging career opportunities exist in the Academic Technical Support section of York Computing Services. These positions have considerable interaction with the user community. Candidates should have a university degree in Computer Science and excellent written and oral communication skills. UNIX System Programmer - Salary $30,550 to $31,823 This position requires an individual with a minimum of 2 years experience as a system programmer in a UNIX environment encompassing such duties as system generation and maintenance procedures. Previous experience with the VAX/VMS operating system, UNIX Writer's Workbench and Documentor's Workbench would be an asset. The position is part of a team (currently 4 people) that works with 8 centrally supported VAXen. In addition, there are 5 more distributed VAXen to which advisory support is rendered. These machines range size from 11/725's and MicroVAX II's up to an 8600 and mostly run VAX/VMS. The University is actively pursuing setting up a UNIX based writing center that will use the Writer's Workbench. VM System Programmer - Salary $33,685 to $35,089 An experienced system programmer is required to support the VM/SP CMS services on our IBM 4381 and 4341 computers. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years experience as a system programmer in the VM environment. A thorough understanding of system generation and maintenance procedures are essential.
