SoftQuad Inc., is looking for a few bright, energetic recent graduates, near-graduates or honest hackers. We develop publishing software based on (but not limited to) a substantially-rewritten version of device-independent troff. We need programmers with an interest in typesetting, text or word processing and graphics to develop our products and to port them to additional versions of UNIX+. The environment is challenging as befits our work, chaotic as you'd expect from a small but growing startup, and rewarding. The development system is a SUN-3/180 workhorse. We have a variety of target machines (3B2/400, PDP-11, 80*86, PC/RT, etc.) and laser printers in-house. We need full-time people now. Degree and work experience desirable but attitude counts. The Positions We are currently considering applicants for the following UNIX/C programmer jobs. All involve development of new code as well as some maintenance. Text formatting specialist - Design and implement sweeping changes to our text formatting software. These are senior positions. Preprocessor Specialist - to help develop new preprocessors for troff, and to enhance (and repair!) tbl, eqn, pic, grap, and related programs. Imager specialist - preferably familiar with the device models assumed by different kinds of printers: photo- typesetters, laser printers (PostScript, Imagen, etc), screens for previewing, etc. Background in typesetting/publishing helpful. Substantial development programming. Porting Specialist - to keep our product running smoothly under a range of UNIX variants, and possibly other operating systems (VMS? DOS?). Exposure to a variety of UNIXes (V7, 4BSD, System V) would be an asset. Please send your resume (as troff input) by electronic mail. Ian F.
